Our Philosophy
Moving beyond symptom management toward structural change
Depth vs. Surface
Most modern therapy models are designed for speed, focusing on “tools” to manage the symptoms of distress. While those tools have their place, they often leave the underlying core of the problem untouched.
We practice Psychoanalytic Therapy, a type of depth therapy. This means we aren't just looking at what you are doing; we’re looking at who you are and why you repeat the patterns that no longer serve you. We believe that when you understand and integrate the why, the how of change follows naturally.
The Three Pillars of Our Work
The Unconscious as an Asset: We don't see the unconscious as a dark basement, but as a sophisticated processing system. Much like an emotional digestive system, your mind is constantly trying to metabolize your history and line it up with your current reality. When that process gets “clogged” by unresolved internal and interpersonal conflicts, symptoms appear. We help you continue that digestive process.
The Relational Laboratory: The most powerful tool in psychoanalytic therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. This is a “live” space where your external relational maps (how you trust, how you withdraw, how you relate to power) becomes part of the therapeutic relationship to be curious about. Here, they can be examined and reworked in real-time.
The Analytical Rigor: We bring a high level of intellectual discipline to the work. Our collective members are trained to listen for what’s under the surface—the instruments in the background as opposed to just the lyrics, the subtle themes, the significant silences, and the symbolic meanings in your dreams and associations.
Who This Is For
Our approach is specifically designed for those who have found “manualized” therapy (like CBT) to be insufficient. It is for the person who:
Feels stuck despite having a high degree of self-awareness.
Intends to change but finds themselves repeating the same relational or professional loops.
Wants to learn about parts of themselves they weren’t otherwise aware of.
The Logistics of Psychoanalytic Therapy
Consistency & Frequency: We prioritize meeting weekly or multi-weekly. This creates the momentum necessary to reach the deeper layers of the psyche to facilitate lasting change. Regular, weekly sessions provides the stability and safety necessary for the unconscious to emerge.
The Open Inquiry: There’s generally no “agenda” or homework. You bring the raw material of your life, and together, we find the threads that tie it all together.
An Engaged Dialogue: While our work is rooted in psychoanalytic theory, our style is modern, relational and engaged. This is not a passive process; it’s a collaborative dialogue where we work together to untangle the threads of your internal life.
